Falling Under A Falling Under Novel Gwen Hayes Books

Ohmygosh! I absolutely loved this fantastic book. It sent shivers up my spine the whole time I was reading it. And since I'm a violin player myself, I especially liked the way Gwen Hayes portrayed the emotion that comes with playing the violin. It can definitely transport you to a whole other world. I loved the romance and it was refreshing to feel Haden's passion for Theia and the way they fit so nicely together like they've always known each other.

This is not instant-love like Twilight. It's a retelling of Persephone, but in a whole other way. Haden is just hot and he actually cares about Theia. I would say that this is more along the lines of a soul mate trying to stay away to save his love, but it's impossible. Forces keep throwing them together.

Falling Under A Falling Under Novel Gwen Hayes Books Reviews

When I first layed eyes on the title cover, I was lured in. The way it completely rearranges the myth about Persephone & Hades dazzled me, and I read all of both books over the weekend. I'm the type of reader that only reads when I'm attached to said book. Gwen Hayes writes with such a beautiful manner, and never lets you get bored. She created dynamic, loveable characters that have depth and I grew to love all of them. I definintly suggest this book to anybody who wants a dark, alluding romance with a bit of action and gritty hororr. I can only wish we got more of Theia and Haden's adventure together.
I've seen many books compared to Twilight and while I think some of the comparisons are a stretch, Falling Under struck me as the closest I have seen in a while. I liked Twilight so by no means is this comparison a dig. Falling Under is darker than Twilight and with a bit of the Hades and Persephone mythology thrown in.

When Theia sees Haden for the first time, she is understandably drawn to him since she has been having very lucid dreams about him. Haden tells her he is not a good guy and she should stay away from him. She knows there is something dark and dangerous about him but she just can't resist him. He even calls her lamb.

There are some really great things about this book. The image of the burning man, the surreal descriptions of the dream world and Haden's world, and the mythological aspects of the story (I love Greek myth!).

There were other things I didn't really care for. Haden treats Theia really poorly for most of the book. He is very gentlemanly in the dream world but when they are in the real world, he flirts with her one minute and openly seduces other girls the next. Seduces them. In her face. The really sad part is Theia just keeps coming back for more. He throws jealous fits and is possessive and controlling. I get his reasoning behind it but why bother flirting with her in the first place? Because he can't resist her?

Then there is Theia's boy crazy, sexually aggressive best friend, Donny. It is such a double standard to have a female character treat boys the way Donny does. If she were a boy using girls for sex, she would be vilified, not seen as being liberated, empowered or whatever she is supposed to be.

The book does end well and I especially enjoyed the portion told from Haden's perspective. Falling Under does end with a bit of a cliffhanger so I expect there will be a sequel. On a side note, the cover of this book is amazing!

Content Profanity, sexual situations, violence
There's not many gothic love stories as I would love to exist, but this is one of them (and Nevermore by Kelly Creagh), and I'm a big fan when it comes to gothic stuff. This story really caught my attention from the beginning, and I couldn't put it down. I finished it in a total of 2 days! In the beginning of the story (while living in the norm of reality), Haden is more like this bad-boy/jacka**. But when he allows Theia to enter her dreams into his world, he becomes this sweet guy that you just fall in love with even if he was half-demon. I like the whole Theia's father being strict (I used to have a strict dad too, and yes no boys for anything, no parties, no clubbing, no people coming over...the whole deal/package), and I can see where Theia is coming from and understand her rebelliousness. I don't blame her. I've been a person who I didn't want to be for a long time. But in the end, I popped, and went bananas...Basically I let loose lol. This story is not just great for story-telling, but it also can allow a reader to connect with Theia who has been in her place and/or is going through it right now. Its...motivational in some kind of way. And not just for us girls, but for guys as well ;). I totally recommend this. This story should have at least 4.5 stars rating instead I see 4. WHY?! '(...D;
