Saltwater Kisses A Billionaire Love Story Krista Lakes 9781490439839 Books

Okay am about halfway through the book and I have to say am disappointed at how unrealistic this book is, how does one go from essentially faking getting hitched to being called a 'Mrs.' and being whisked away to an entirely different world, when the whole thing isn't much of a big deal. I feel so far the author is trying to make a big deal out of seemingly nothing. Am afraid that if the rest of the book is as bland as the first half of it, it would appear to be am in for more disappointment. I just finished the book and I have to say I am disappointed in the heroine, I feel as if she let everyone dictate her life. Furthermore the relationship between the H and h, in my opinion did not grow nor do I feel like they had enough interactions to actually get to know each other let alone profess being in love.

Saltwater Kisses A Billionaire Love Story Krista Lakes 9781490439839 Books Reviews

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Emma LaRue, a small town girl from Iowa who's never left the state of Iowa has won a radio contest, and the prize is an all expense paid vacation to Ocean Key Resort. Who could pass such an opportunity? Emma plans to go with her sister but her sister becomes ill and can't go with her but she goes alone. The sights, the sounds, the smell of the beach, a whole new world from the small confines of Iowa. While sunning on the beach and taking in the sights, Emma spies a man all alone but he seems angry while talking on his phone. She also spies a couple frolicking in the water and then hears of cry of someone yelling for help. Instinct kicks in and she rushes to help the woman pull her husband out of the water and she performs CPR saving the man. After the experience, she is congratulated by the single man who was on his phone and they begin to talk.

Jack Saunders is the single man on the beach, angry that his secretary was becoming involved with the pool boy at the resort. Jack was in hopes of finding her interesting, fun and asked he to join him on vacation but she had other plans like partying, staying drunk and of course the pool boy.

Jack and Emma hit it off immediately on the beach and sit for hours talking, telling each others dreams and secrets. In a matter of hours they find on the inside they are quite alike in feeling alone in the world, wanting to chase their dreams but road blocks are always in place but on this island, they can be whomever they want to be. They spend a passionate night together and every day after until it's time to go back to the real world.

Arriving back to the real world they discover they've been found out. Their secret marriage on the island and their many times together had been photographed and the tabloids are having a field day, even in Iowa. Jack fears for Emma's safety because of the tabloids and photographers following her and sends his assistants to bring her to him in New York where he can keep her safe. Emma is in hopes its a chance for them to keep the passion growing like it had on the island. She finds out Jack is a billionaire and set to take over his fathers company and has no time for her. She is lavished with clothes, gifts, flowers, a body guard and private driver but all she wants is Jack.Jack's parents have other ideas for their son and it doesn't include a woman, so they attempt to pay her off to leave Jack.

Their story is wonderful, true and honest. They center each other and soon find out they can't live without the other. Awesome story and a Cinderella story come true for Emma.
...and I made when I took a chance on this book. Admittedly, other reviewers gave sufficient warning some detailed exactly the things I found wrong with Saltwater Kisses, but I figured they all had to be exaggerating. Many were not.

The premise was sort of silly, but it intrigued me nonetheless. (Truth be told, I'd recently enjoyed a book with a similarly silly premise, and that heavily influenced my decision.) It still could have resulted in a good book, had the author had the skill, vocabulary and imagination to tell a better story.

The dialogue was often awkward the characters have the (unrealistic for average speakers of U.S. English) habit of not using contractions often. Even when they do, the other words coming out of their mouths often didn't ring true for the characters' ages and socioeconomic statuses. Heck, sometimes the things said didn't ring true for human beings over the age of twelve!

The author's descriptions of New York City were believable for someone who had never been in a large city before. The book gets a star for that. It would have been nice to have the Met's name used properly in all references, but after the crap-show that was her description of an "exclusive" Caribbean resort (not to mention her stereotype-ridden descriptions of the locals on the unnamed island), I was willing to make allowances.

I might even have made allowances for the awfulness of the island interlude had the romance been in the least engaging. Alas, that was the one of the worst aspects of the story the "couple" were together so infrequently and the narrator/main character was so much of a teller-not-shower that I couldn't fathom what was loveable about either of them.

Two other things made suspending my disbelief incredibly difficult. First, her dad was a dentist, but the family of four was poor-ish? With no added information, I found that hard to swallow. Second, she applied to EIGHTY veterinary schools in a month? Whilst working full time? Even though the U.S. fewer than half that number and she would need to attend in the U.S. since her family has no money (and they don't support her career path, anyway). Wondering about that left me distracted, and since the revelation came fairly early in the book, I spent a long time being distracted.

Finally, it was clear that the author has no concept of what life is like at the head of a multibillion-dollar company. Or how paparazzi operate. Or what the threshold for being "rich" is in the New York metro area.

It was all too much. Those two stars are solely for the MC's wide-eyed descriptions of the city.
Okay am about halfway through the book and I have to say am disappointed at how unrealistic this book is, how does one go from essentially faking getting hitched to being called a 'Mrs.' and being whisked away to an entirely different world, when the whole thing isn't much of a big deal.
